How to Create Backups in DirectAdmin

How to Create Backups in DirectAdmin - Posted by Michael on 10/01/2022

It’s important to regularly create backups of your website files and data in case of an emergency. Whether that be downtime causing a loss of sales, a hosting provider going bust or human error breaking your website. You always need something to revert back to so you don’t have to start from the beginning again.

That’s where the DirectAdmin Control Panel comes in to play with its GUI backup system which can be used to create backup files and restore them too.

For accounts that don’t have reseller privileges you can utilise the user end backups section to create and restore backups of your DirectAdmin websites.

User backups are saved in the “backups” directory of your user account.

How to Create a Full Account Backup
To backup the entire user account head on over to the “Create/Restore Backups” page from within the “Advanced Features” sub-section.

When you’re on that page select “All Domains” at the top.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the “Create Backup” button.

How to Create a Specific Domain Backup
To backup a specific domain within your user head on over to the “Create/Restore Backups” page from within the “Advanced Features” sub-section.

Change the “Include” configuration to the “Selected Domains” option.

From the pop-up you can check the domains that you want to include in the backup.

Close the pop up and click the “Create Backup” button at the bottom of the page.

Download Backup Files
It’s important not to solely rely on your hosting server as your only backup source so you should always be sure to download your backup files and independently store copies of them according to your contingency plans.

To download the backup file first navigate to the “File Manager”.

Navigate to the “backups” directory where your backup file is saved.

Right click on the backup file and click “Download”.

Your backup file will now be available on your local device for you to keep a copy of or to transfer to another server if necessary.
